My name is Melannie Denise Cunningham.
I am your Africa Bound trip organizer and hostess.
Thank you for your interest in this adventure!
Africa Bound 2017 will be my 19th trip to South Africa since 1995. My first trip, I worked as a volunteer on the grand opening festivities for the first McDonald's restaurant in the country after the dismanteling of apartheid. I have been traveling there and other parts of the Motherland ever since including Swaziland, Namibia, Malawi, Kenya and Uganda.
My professional background spans many industries. I've worked progressively responsible positions in human rights, community outreach and materials management within federal, state and municipal government. I serve currently as an administrator at a private, faith-based university in Tacoma, Washington working to enhance the higher education experience for students of color. I am also an entrepreneur, owning and managing a public relations consulting practice with a focus on project management that involves media production, community outreach, special events and motivational speaking. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington State University, a certificate in Broadcast Production Technology from Bates Technical College and a Masters in Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University.
As for my volunteer endeavors, I currently serve as a board member for Green Dot Public Schools- Washington State, the Foundation for Tacoma Students and Genesis Housing and Community Development Coalition. I also sit on the local advisory boards for iHeart Media-Seattle, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Northwest Chapter and I am a very proud 36 year member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Because of my extensive contacts in South Africa, I am excited to offer you a travel experience that will be authentic, comfortable and memorable. This particular trip has a couple of objectives. We will be tourists and also community servants.
