WHAT'S A GIRL TO DO?

Women are under pressure to be the right size, to succeed as a wife, mother, daughter, student, to be a successful career woman, accumulate all the right stuff, be great in the bedroom, the boardroom, the kitchen, church, and committees.  Whew!

We strive to keep it all together even though sometimes we feel like the only thing keeping us together is some scotch tape and a prayer. As Women on the Grow, we are learning to

enjoy, excel and endure the journey of life by empowering ourselves

mentally, spiritually, physically, financially, and emotionally.

HELP US HELP CHILDREN IN GEORGE

SPONSOR A SCHOOL OR A CHILD WITH ONE OF OUR PACKAGES

We have learned through our community partner in George, the  "Womb to Tomb" organization that there are many children who do not have the necessary school uniforms to wear to school through the cold months. When the U.S Delegation arrives in George in August, it will be the WINTER season.

While our biggest hope would be to clothe every child in need, we have come up with a strategy to begin working toward that goal and make a small impact.

There are 18 primary schools for Black learners in the whole municipality of George. For this immediate effort, we are hoping to provide 6 learners per school (3 girls and 3 boys) ages 7 to 9 year olds with uniforms, as they are
the most vulnerable.

Each child will receive a uniform "package" will cost $75 per learner and consists of:

1 white long sleeve shirt
1 rain jacket and long pants
1 pair socks
1 pair of shoes
1 school bag

As an added bonus, we are partnering with the Sew Happy Sewing Co-operative in George, an initiative of 6 young women who started up a small business to assist the community with affordable school uniforms. They will manufacture the uniforms we purchase and also involve other community women to keep the costs low.
